Rock Stars with a Side of Fried Chicken & Kings of Leon

/ On : 2:24 AM/ Thank you for visiting my small blog here. If you wanted to discuss or have the question around this article, please contact me e-mail at cuongihere@gmail.com

Sure, we like to think we are rock stars. Heck we were even musicians way back in the day. But these days the closest we usually come is air drumming on the back of some annoyed passenger’s airplane seat. So when we had the chance to watch Kings of Leon as part of the Amex UNSTAGED event, we jumped at the opportunity to slap on the spandex and empty our hairspray bottle.

We love attending Amex UNSTAGED screenings, and the Kings of Leon concert last Friday night was no exception. Our evening took us to the legendary Revolution Recording Studio in Toronto’s East End. Neil Peart of Rush said, “It’s the best sounding room we’ve ever recorded in”. While we didn’t make any recordings that day, we did have the chance to pose for the camera at the microphone and we came home with our own chocolate CD. Yes, we pretended we were rock stars for an evening and we liked it!

Leading up to the event   we, along with  our fellow American Express Ambassadors  shared our excitement for the next Unstaged installment andeven offered one of our readers the chance to experience the live stream viewing with us. We had fellow travel blogger  Mariellen Ward join us for this incredibly fun evening.

Dinner and a Concert

Kings of Leon are from the South and a Southern themed dinner was served right inside the recording studio’s main room. Our poppy seed crusted salmon was divine and the charred corn and saffron risotto with a Portobello mushroom steak was heavenly, but it was the pecan crusted pie that was sinfully delicious. I must say, when I saw that Southern Fried Chicken hit the table next to me I had total food envy. What better way to spend an evening than listening to great music in an iconic recording studio with great food? Sign me up!

What is Amex UNSTAGED

The American Express UNSTAGED music series is a live event and interactive digital platform that brings together popular musicians with famous directors. The 13th, and most recent Amex UNSTAGED event united the Grammy Award winning Kings of Leon and comedian Fred Armisen.

Kings of Leon played live from the “02 Shepard’s Bush Arena” in London, England allowing fans from around the world to enjoy the concert as it was streamed as a live VEVO event on Youtube.com. We watched as we ate and mingled with friends and colleagues sipping wine and champagne and touring the award winning studio. It felt like a VIP section for the stars. The Amex UNSTAGED events have become so popular, they’ve generated more than 100-million total streams. Man, we would love those numbers on our YouTube videos.

More than just travel, Amex is Service

Our American Express Platinum Welcome Package

Believe it or not, people do have interests outside of travel, and American Express Cardmembers have access to several inspiring events in music, dining, culture, film, sports and fashion. Service is the cornerstone of the American Express Brand and the Amex UNSTAGED events showcase Amex’s commitment to service not only to Cardmembers but to everyone. Anyone can watch an UNSTAGED event live and the re-broadcasts too. It’s really the coolest experience. Viewers have the opportunity to “Choose their cam” meaning that they can control their viewer experience by switching between the director’s main camera and alternate artist views. Right now you can watch clips and sketches from the event. Here’s one of our personal favourites.

This is just one of many ways American Express makes their Cardmembers feel special. With experiences like access to the 55th Annual Grammy Awards including a Q&A with select music artists to giving Cardmembers the opportunity to drive a BMX M-Power on an the F1 Circuit of the Americas, the American Express premium service really does make you feel like more than just a customer. With events like this, we felt like more than just a customer, we felt like rock stars. Sitting at the sound mixing board living out our fantasies of being famous musicians was great fun. We could get used to a life like this, but for now, we’ll settle on more unique experiences and rewards from American Express. What do they have coming up next?
